My friend Coy Bowles has a band that some of you may have heard about. Coy Bowles and the Fellowship play frequently here in Atlanta. Adam Knight the guitarist of [golden] introduced me to Coy a few years ago, and since that time I have seen Coy play several times, both with his current band and with Adam Knight. I'm really excited about this!!! The Beastie Boys, realizing that they are now a little old to jump around on stage and rap, have decided to return to their glory days of instrumental jams (see Check your Head and In Sound From Way Out). Apparently they have a new album coming out this June and will be touring this summer although primarily in Europe. Some of these shows will be completely instrumental. The Mix-Up is Beastie Boys' first-ever full album of all-new instrumental material. The follow-up to 2004's To The 5 Boroughs, The Mix-Up features Diamond, Horovitz and Yauch back on drums, guitar and bass, with able assistance from Keyboard Money Mark and percussionist Alfredo Ortiz, on 12 brand new wordless, sample-less, scratchless originals. Beastie Boys will kick off a summer's worth of worldwide touring May 26 & 27 with two sets at the Sasquatch! Festival at the Gorge in Washington State. The band will be playing at several European festivals throughout June and July, including Live Earth at Wembley Stadium on July 7.

The two brothers from Oasis are leading this charge. Apparently according to this article they are the two "biggest" Beatles fans currently associated with music. Whatever.

According to Harp Magazine, Austin City Limits will be moving from the 6th floor of the Communications Building on the University of Texas Austin campus to a larger location downtown. The producer of the show has assured everyone that their "music-first aesthetic will remain their calling card." The new space increases seating by about 400 people. If you've never watched Austin City Limits, you're missing out. Check your local PBS station for the schedule.

I got to open an early birthday present over the weekend. This thing is fantastic. I can finally play my records again, and if I want to I can take this thing anywhere I want. I've really been listening to a lot of Bossa Nova at work lately. I'm enjoying it so much that I had to share with the two readers of this blog. In my search through the Internet for various forms of Bossa Nova I found this site. Emily Jones is a DJ in Ottawa, Canada, so I highly doubt any of us will see her anytime soon. Her site has tracklistings of her sets, which can be used as a guidebook during your next trip to the local record store.

Page McConnell of Phish fame, will be releasing his first solo album April 17, 2007. Page has always been one of my favorites, so I'm really looking forward to this release. I'm just happy that all four members are continuing to make music (albeit some better than others). Here is the EPK for the upcoming Page McConnell self-titled solo debut! The EPK features clips of three of the new songs as well as an interview with Anthony DeCurtis. Hopefully there will be a tour for this album which includes a date in Atlanta.

It's that time of year, and once again I'm not attending. I lived in Austin, Texas for three years, and I only actually attended portions of this festival one year. The South By Southwest Music and Film festival is probably one of the best festivals in existence. Unfortunately I have responsibilities that will not allow for me to take off on a whim and enjoy such a festival. How nice those college years really were. Anyhow, Adam Knight, and his band [golden] are heading out to Austin next week. While they are not part of the SXSW festival there is another festival happening at the same time. The Texas Rock Fest coincides with SXSW and [golden] is playing at 1:00 AM outside on 6th Street. If you've ever been to Austin, then you know that this is a fantastic opportunity for Adam and his band mates. The stage is right in the middle of downtown where literally thousands of college students flock every single night of the week. If you happen to be in Austin make sure you're at the outside stage on Saturday, March 17th , St. Patrick's Day. Good luck Adam!

Frank Zappa - Inca Roads

This song is the opening track on Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention album entitled, One Size Fits All. This album is the last album Frank made featuring the name Mothers of Invention. Inca Roads is the longest track on the LP clocking in at over eight minutes. This was almost unheard of in 1975. This song is considered to be one of Frank Zappa's most highly acclaimed compositions. Check out this video of him performing the song. Oh...the fashion of the 70's.

Since I'm a child of the 80's and a teenager of the 90's, every time I hear, see, or think of Frank Zappa, I think of the legendary four from Vermont. Here is a video of them performing a Frank Zappa song, Peaches en Regalia.

The [golden] show on Thursday evening was great! They played for close to an hour. They debuted a song which was amazing. I think the name of it was Disarray. Hopefully I can get a copy and post it in the future. Big Head Todd And The Monsters were good as well. I didn't recognize many of their songs because I haven't really listened to them since about 1995. They did play It's Alright, which was good.

This morning I have a few songs from the band El Buho. I was at this show. It took place on November 9, 2001 at Antone's in Austin, Texas. This show featured Mike Gordon on bass and Jeff Sipe on the drums. Listening to this makes me really miss Austin. I hope everyone has a wonderful Saturday!

In honor of The Police reuniting this Sunday evening for a special performance at the Grammy's, I have pulled out one of my favorite recordings that I own of The Police. These songs are from a performance at the Sun Plaza in Tokyo, Japan, February 15, 1980. The word is they are planning a multi-country stadium tour for the summer and could possibly be headlining Bonnaroo. I hope they play something besides "Every Breath You Take."

I highly doubt I will keep up this rate of posts per day, but I'm just enjoying myself so much today! I was going through some of the music files that I have on my computer here at work (taking a much deserved break), and realized that I have some great sound checks from one of my favorite bands, Phish. A word about Phish before I post these songs from their Japan 2000 Tour. I first saw Phish on April, 22, 1994 at the Township Auditorium in Columbia, SC. They made a pretty big impression on me. I tried to see them as many times as possible since that first time. Unfortunately they are not around anymore (as a group). Now.....not everyone shares my enthusiasm for Phish. People either get it or they don't. I can't really explain why I like them so much, I just do. So if you are one of those people who get it these are for you. For those of you that don't, well then don't listen! Here are the first three.

LOST

Get your couches ready, because tonight is the return of LOST at its new time, 10:00 PM EST. LOST will play every Wednesday starting tonight for sixteen straight weeks. April will be 31 weeks pregnant when season 3 of LOST has completed!! Unfortunately this will be the first time that April and I have watched the show with commercials. Ugh! I'm a little biased with this first band, considering the lead guitarist has been a good friend of mine for many years; however I think they are really good and they are beginning to gel. The band is [golden]. They are a local band here in Atlanta, and have begun to play quite frequently around town. The Beginning

After spending the past few years reading and lurking around other blogs mostly about music, I have decided to create my own. I'm not exactly sure where this is going to lead; however I have a general idea of what I would like to do. I want to have a forum where I can share my photos and stories, as well as, share the different music that I am listening to with my friends. I also want to use this forum as a central place where people can link to all of the websites that I frequent everyday. So let's get this started!
